Questions and answers

1) What happens when my conditions prevents me from calling Emergency Assistance before receiving medical attention?

Obviously, in case of extreme emergencies, the priority is for you to receive medial attention (treatment). If your health condition does not allow you to contact Emergency Assistance before receiving treatment, you or your travel companion must contact us as soon as possible (or as soon as your health status permits).

We suggest that you always travel with your identification card because it contains all the necessary information so another person can contact Emergency Assistance on your behalf.

2) If I am hospitalized, will my identification card (pharmacy card) prove my coverage?

The hospitals won’t necessarily recognize your card as a proof of insurance, but may use it to contact Tour+Med Assistance who will verify and confirm your benefits. However, it is the insured’s responsibility or his traveling companion to contact Emergency Assistance…do not rely on the word of the hospital personnel … be pro-active!

3) If I have chosen to use a deductible, do I still have to call the Emergency Assistance before consultations?

Yes, it is mandatory that our Assistance office be contacted as soon as you need medical attention; even if the consultation may be at your expense.

Emergency Assistance will:

  • Open your file and assist you, guide you, or give you advice on many aspects of your emergency including solutions that may save you money
  • Our team would be cognizant of your situation and will have the ability to assist you better once you reach your deductible maximum
  • Be aware of your situation if and when your claim exceeds the amount of your deductible. This way we are able to access your file and assist you more effectively.

4) What is the Pharmacy Card?

The pharmacy card can be used in cases where you were prescribed a new medication for a new condition resulting from a medical emergency while travelling abroad. By showing the Pharmacy Card to the Pharmacist, you will only be required to pay a $5.00 US (non-refundable) co-payment fee, per prescription. This card is valid in the United States only and is honoured at many large pharmacies like CVS, Walgreen, K-Mart, Publix, Target, Wal-Mart, etc.

5) How do I submit a claim?

You can find a claim form in your policy or download it from the Documentation section of our website. You must complete it and return it to Tour+Med’s Claims Department using the following instructions:

To accelerate the process of your claim, please…

  • Read the instructions attached to the claim form closely;
  • Properly fill out and sign your claim form;
  • Attach all original bills/receipts;
  • Send everything at the following address:
    • 247, Thibeau Blvd., Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, G8T 6X9

You don’t have to wait for the end of your trip to submit a claim but must do so within the 90 days following your return to your province of residence.

  • The medical kits used by the medical team in case of air ambulance repatriation contain over 90 types of medications. All crew members are able to intervene immediately if a situation deteriorates.
  • Air ambulances are able to fly at an altitude of 35,000 feet; however, for the safety and comfort of the patient, flights are usually done at an altitude of 24,000 feet, which gives better cabin pressurisation.
  • The equipment used during a medical evacuation is highly technical and provide the comforting services you would receive at a medical clinic; only you are 24,000 feet above ground!
