To satisfy the needs of Snowbirds
More than 6 million Canadians traveled to Florida each year. The costs resulting from medical emergencies was growing at an alarming rate, prompting Daniel Provencher, our President, to create Tour+Med as a means to help and protect Canadian travelers, more specifically the Snowbirds. Daniel focused on this segment of the population and created quality products and assistance aimed at providing them with insurance protection and peace of mind while enjoying their time away from home.
Tour+Med becomes fully operational, administering the business from Trois-Rivières, QC and providing high quality assistance to its clients through a sister assistance company located in Florida. In doing so, Tour+Med reinforced its commitment to remain close to the Canadian travelers it protects, and is still providing assistance and support from its Florida location.
To satisfy the needs of the other travelers
Tour+Med broke with tradition. Fuelled by steady growth and an increasing demand, the company launched international travel insurance products that no longer limited themselves to the Florida travelers. Canadians of all ages, going almost anywhere in the world, could now use Tour+Med insurance products. This realignment contributed to the company's accelerated growth and lead to the launch of Tour+Med's Multi-Trip Annual Plans.
While we had already built a solid reputation and were known for our competitiveness, we had now developed and were being recognized for our personalized underwriting expertise. As a result of this, we could make competitive offers to applicants who would otherwise not be considered by other carriers. Even today, our refusal rate is still amongst the lowest in the industry.
This was a pivot year for Tour+Med. With business growth in mind, we formed a new partnership with Humania Assurance Inc, then celebrating its 70th anniversary. Humania Assurance develops and sells life, health and travel insurance products for both individuals and groups and is the choice of more than 200,000 Canadians. Humania Assurance ranks among the largest life and health insurance companies in eastern Canada.
Created to meet the needs of Canadian travellers for non-medical protection, our newly-added Non-Medical Plan allowed Tour+Med to offer Trip Cancellation/Interruption, Baggage and Accidental Death protections.
20 years later, the Tour+Med product line is now recognized by travelers for its reliable coverage and outstanding service. Our mission is to become a travel & health insurance leader for Canadians traveling abroad, and to provide them with superior quality products at a reasonable price.
